Drew McCutchen grew up in Stanwood, Washington, a small, rural farming community about an hour north of Seattle. He attended Skagit Valley Community College and then the University of Washington. The Pacific Northwest figures largely in Drew’s work, and he enjoys cultivating this influence by hiking and backpacking across the Olympic and Cascade mountain ranges.

He is most fond of the weird and unsettling work of authors like Octavia Butler, Jonathan Lethem, and Diane Cook. He is hopeful that his stories follow in the tradition of their vision for excellent art.

Drew’s short story, “Zombie Horror” appeared in the Baltimore Review in their Spring 2017 edition. His short story "The Falling Out" is forthcoming from Pleiades Magazine in 2018. He is the winner of the 2018 PEN/Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers.
